My journey with stress has been a uinique one. When I was 7 years old, the federal government took my Dad’s business and our house and accused him of white collar crimes. The case was thrown out, but they wouldn’t leave him or my family alone. They came after him again and he was convicted. He was sent to prison when I was a freshman in college. Dad served his time, but the government would continue to take money from him and haunt him for the next 20 years. All of this took a heavy toll on our whole family.
In 2018, my dad died after a brutal experience with pulmonary fibrosis. My aunt, and cousin also died, I was let go from an artificial intelligence job that I loved, and the government tried to take my innocent, widowed mom’s home. I was diagnosed with a chronic inflammatory disease, heart issues, sleeping problems, and had so much back pain that there were many days when I couldn’t stand up straight and I had to drag my right leg along the ground. I went to the ER four different times because I thought I was having heart attacks. It turned out that they were all anxiety attacks. Being a man from Texas and a former football coach, that’s still hard for me to admit. All of the stresses over the course of my life had reached a critical mass. It was the worst time in my life.
My Story
I started changing my life in 2019. With the help of some amazing people I learned mindfulness, breathing techniques, relaxation exercises, changes in my nutrition, and some other skills that made a huge difference for me. Now there’s no trace of my supposedly chronic inflammatory disease or my heart issues. I can go skiing, play racquetball, and even do obstacle courses on the water. What I've learned has also helped me overcome divorce and a flooded home where I lost about a third of everything I had. In case you’re wondering, yes we protected mom’s house and all of that is completely finished.
Through it all I’ve really learned how to minimize stresses whenever they come up. Now I love sharing the techniques and methodologies that continue to make such a big difference for me. I know that they work for other people too. I’m certified in stress management and I’ve led dozens of different events around Austin. I truly enjoy seeing how other people improve their lives and I’d welcome the opportunity to share what I’ve learned with you.
